Five ways to make summer beautiful for you and the planet

Read on for clean & green holiday tips from the Manucurist team!

The summer holidays are fast approaching and we're counting down the days to this long-awaited break. Our wish list includes relaxing in the sun, enjoying nature, taking care of ourselves and our loved ones, having fun and getting away from it all. We all deserve this break, but we shouldn't abandon the clean & green habits we adopted this year.

So, let's switch things up a bit and adopt some new good habits for the holidays! Here is Team Manucurist's to-do list, which shows you can be beautiful AND eco-friendly this summer:

🦀 Organic sunscreen is better for marine life

Sunscreen is ringing alarm bells! In recent years, both Australia and Hawaii (among others) have highlighted the disastrous effects of sunscreen chemicals on marine ecosystems, including the disappearance of coral reefs. The main culprit is oxybenzone, an ingredient which should be avoided at all costs.

How? Opt for biodegradable sun protection without nanoparticles to sunbathe and swim safely, without harming the fish. We particularly recommend the Patyka eco-designed sunscreen range based on algae, Pongamia extract, wheatgerm and aloe vera.

☀️ I love you, sun, but less is more

If you want to enjoy the beach without worrying about the sun damaging your skin, a classic wide-brimmed straw hat is a great option—and super chic too! According to Manucurist's CEO Gaëlle, a straw hat is the best anti-wrinkle product on the market! To keep her face shaded, she is never without her Lorna Murray Capri hat made from cotton and natural fibres.

🌱 Green & clean everywhere

Before you go, take a look at what's in your toiletry bag:

👉 Give priority to cruelty-free, vegan beauty products with as many natural ingredients as possible. Gaëlle's tip: Weleda Skin Food Body Butter makes a great after-sun product with its wild pansy, calendula and chamomile extracts.

👉 Time to wave goodbye to plastic packaging and show our appreciation for recyclable glass and eco-refill containers. We love the Duo Pack by Savonnerie Ciment. Featuring ingredients like citrus and white tea, this soap and solid shampoo duo gently cleanses your skin and hair.

👜 Never without a flask and tote bag

Every year, more than 8 million tons of plastic end up in our oceans. This can't go on! Reducing the amount of plastic we use in our day-to-day life has become critical. Next time you go to the beach or to the countryside for a picnic, replace your plastic water bottles with reusable insulated flasks.

Wrap sandwiches and snacks in paper bags and put all your bits and pieces in attractive, reusable totes rather than in plastic bags that blow away at the first gust of wind. And remember to take a spare tote bag for your rubbish so you...

🐚 Leave no trace

There should be no sign you were even there! This means removing all your rubbish, including cigarette butts, and leaving the place exactly as you found it.

And if you're tempted to pick up a pretty pebble, shell or piece of wood on the way home, hold your horses. Every single thing in an ecosystem has a part to play. By breaking the chain, you're upsetting the balance of this little world. Instead, take away any abandoned rubbish—especially plastic. Nature will be eternally grateful to you.

♻️ Sort your waste, even on holiday

Last but not least, don't forget to continue to sort your waste and recycle what you can by throwing your rubbish in the bins provided. It's important that we all do our bit!

We wish you happy holidays full of fun, love & all things green 🌿
